New GSTN Enrollment Option for Unregistered E-commerce Suppliers
Recently, the Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) introduced a new feature in response to changes in the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) Act. This feature is designed to help unregistered suppliers sign up for selling goods through e-commerce platforms. The goal is to make things easier for unregistered suppliers, especially those who sell goods through online platforms within one state or union territory, making it more convenient to do business.
Enrollment Process
The enrollment process for unregistered suppliers who want to sell goods through e-commerce platforms is now made simple by GSTN. Here's how it works:
1. Go to the GST portal and access the user services.
2. Confirm your intention to apply as a supplier for e-commerce operators.
3. Fill out a form with the necessary details.
4. Once your PAN (Permanent Account Number) is verified successfully, you'll receive an enrollment number.
This process is designed to ease the burden of compliance for unregistered suppliers and promote the growth of e-commerce. It provides an opportunity for smaller suppliers to participate in online business without the need for mandatory GST registration.
Conditions need to be met for unregistered suppliers to enroll in this program:
1. Suppliers should only sell goods through an E-commerce Operator (ECO) within one State or Union Territory, avoiding any sales between different States.
2. Suppliers must have a valid Permanent Account Number (PAN) according to the Income Tax Act of 1961. They need to provide their PAN, which will be verified on the GST Portal. Additionally, they must furnish their business address and specify the State/Union Territory where they operate before commencing such sales.
3. Suppliers will be assigned an enrollment number once their PAN is successfully verified. They must obtain this number before conducting any sales through an ECO.
