Registering the DSC is an essential act to avail the e-filing services. All the Citizens of Bharat can file their income tax returns online using the Digital Signature C3. But the question arises “How to register DSC on Income Tax Portal? In order to solve this doubt, here is the detailed step-by-step process to register DSC on the income tax portal. 

To use e-filing services, taxpayers need to register their DSC (Digital Signature Certificate) on the Income Tax portal. Before attempting DSC registration, it's essential to have:

1. A valid Class 3 DSC with a USB Token.

2. The DSC software installed on your system.

3. A user ID and password for logging in.

In this comprehensive guide, we will take you through the steps to register your DSC on the Income Tax portal seamlessly.

How to Register DSC on Income Tax Portal?

Step 1: Go to the Income Tax e-filing portal and sign in using your user ID and password.



Step 2: Navigate to the My Profile page from the Dashboard.


Step 3: Choose the option "Register DSC" available on the left side of the screen.


Step 4: Input the email ID associated with the DSC token. Choose the option "I have downloaded and installed emsigner utility" and then click Continue.

Step 5: Choose the Provider and Certificate, then enter the Provider Password. Finally, click on the "Sign" button.



After the successful validation, you will see a message confirming your success and providing an option to return to the Dashboard.



Now, let’s have a look at the different scenarios of DSC Registration.

Re-register DSC when the registered DSC has not yet expired, follow these steps:

1. After completing Step 3, you will see a message stating, "You have already registered DSC. You can see the information of your registered DSC, or update by re-registering.

2. Click on "View" to see the details of your registered DSC.

3. Click on "Update" if you wish to make changes, and then follow Steps 4 and 5 accordingly.

Re-register when your registered DSC has expired, follow these steps:

1. After completing the aforementioned 3 steps, you'll see a message stating, "Your Registered DSC has already expired. Please re-register a valid DSC."

2. The process of registering a new DSC in this case is the same as explained previously.

Simply proceed with the registration process as described earlier.

To register the DSC of the Principal Contact, follow these steps:

1. After completing Step 3, enter the email ID associated with the Principal Contact registered at e-Filing.

2. Continue by registering the DSC using the same steps as outlined previously.

You can proceed with the DSC registration process following the steps mentioned earlier.
