ITR Due Date Extension 2023! Will the Deadline For e-filing ITR extend?

The latest news regarding the Income Tax Return due date for Assessment Year 2023-24 (AY 2023-24) reveals that there are only 20 days remaining for taxpayers to file their returns for the income earned in the financial year 2022-23. As a result, it is anticipated that the Income Tax e-filing website will experience a significant surge in traffic in the upcoming days.

Several taxpayers have taken to social media platforms to express their grievances regarding their challenges while attempting to file their returns on the e-filing portal. Some individuals have even reported that the portal's performance is sluggish according to their experiences shared on social media.

Notwithstanding the challenges experienced by a few users, this year's tax filing has seen a remarkable surge. As of July 11, the Income Tax Department has achieved a significant milestone by surpassing the 2 crore mark for filed Income Tax Returns (ITRs) 9 days ahead of the previous year.

The deadline for filing returns for taxpayers whose accounts do not require auditing is set for July 31. Despite the significant number of tax filings received thus far, it has been determined that there will be no extension granted for the ITR due date this year. It is important for taxpayers to heed this information and file their returns well in advance to avoid any last-minute rush. With that said, here are some recent updates that you should be aware of.

Income Tax Department tweeted: We are happy to inform you that over 2 crore Income Tax Returns (ITRs) for AY 2023-24 have already been filed till 11th of July this year as compared to 2 crore ITRs filed till 20th of July last year. Our taxpayers have helped us reach the 2 crore milestone 9 days early this year, compared to the corresponding period in the preceding year, and we appreciate the effort! We urge those who haven’t filed ITR for AY 2023-24, to file their ITR at the earliest to avoid last minute rush.

According to the Income Tax e-filing portal, taxpayers have verified over 19 million income tax returns (ITRs) as of July 11, while the department has processed more than 6.4 million returns. It is anticipated that there will be a substantial increase in the number of filed, verified, and processed returns in the near future.
