GST Campaign Under way 4,000 Firms In District Tagged Suspicious

In the development of the GST department's efforts to address questionable and counterfeit registrations, around 4,000 firms based in Ludhiana have been flagged as doubtful by the online system of the Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN). 

It is expected that this figure will increase further. The campaign was launched on May 16th. Given the substantial number of taxpayers in the Ludhiana district, it will require a significant amount of time to thoroughly investigate these cases and ascertain the scope of suspicious registrations, as per sources.

Sources have disclosed that the Ludhiana division of the state GST (SGST) department has recorded a total of over 88,000 registered dealers under GST. These dealers are spread across five distinct ranges, with the majority of registrations concentrated in range-1 and range-2. 

It has further been revealed that as part of the ongoing campaign, SGST officials have been authorized to take appropriate measures in instances of suspicious and counterfeit registrations.

Sources have disclosed that the Ludhiana division of the state GST (SGST) department has recorded a total of over 88,000 registered dealers under GST. 

These dealers are spread across five distinct ranges, with the majority of registrations concentrated in range-1 and range-2. It has further been revealed that as part of the ongoing campaign, SGST officials have been authorized to take appropriate measures in instances of suspicious and counterfeit registrations.

The SGST ranges have commenced the preparation of their teams for the purpose of physically verifying the dealers who have been identified as suspicious.

In opposition to the GST authorities' campaign, the United Cycle and Parts Manufacturers Association has issued a statement expressing their concerns. The association stated that during the registration process under the GST regime, the department conducts thorough verifications, including physical inspections of the premises. 

Once a firm has successfully passed these inspections, obtained its registration, and consistently fulfilled its obligations by timely submitting returns and taxes, the association questions the need for door-to-door checks that appear to be causing unnecessary distress to the industry. 

The association further emphasizes the prevailing sense of panic among industrialists and urges the department to refrain from harassing them, promoting a business-friendly environment instead.
